Showcase

Three evenings, described by what they had to solve.

Clients are described by sector and event type rather than named, at their request. Nothing below is attributed to an identifiable organisation or person.

Cases Three Format Anonymised Largest 160 invited, 155 on floor
A year-end corporate evening in full flow with three entertainment tables surrounded by guests in formal wear.

Case 01 · Technology company · year-end function

A merged team of 160 who had mostly never met.

Two offices had been combined eight months earlier and the year-end function was the first time both halves would be in one room. The organiser’s brief was blunt: do not let this become two parties in the same venue.

We built four tables in a deliberate pattern — a roulette-style table immediately inside the entrance, two blackjack-style tables in the middle of the floor and a poker-themed table in a side alcove for people who wanted to settle. Chips were issued at the door rather than from a desk, so the first interaction every guest had was with a host.

The organiser’s own measure afterwards was that the speeches at nine o’clock had to be made twice, because nobody would leave the tables the first time.

Case 02 · Private host · milestone birthday

A guest list where gambling would not have been welcome.

The host wanted the look and feel of a members room for a 60th birthday, but several guests — including close family — would have been genuinely uncomfortable with anything resembling gambling. Her question to us was whether the theme could survive without it.

It could, and the invitation said so in one line: casino-themed entertainment, chips only, nothing played for money. We ran two tables for forty guests in a hired heritage room, with the lighting built around existing candelabra rather than fighting them, and a final showcase round before the toast.

The host told us afterwards that the line in the invitation had been the thing that made two of her guests come at all.

Case 03 · Event agency partner · multi-event programme

Three cities, three consecutive nights, one crew.

An agency had won a national programme and needed an entertainment partner who could deliver the same room three times in three places without the third one being visibly tired. Their concern was not the equipment; it was whether the crew would hold up.

We built a six-table floor with a branded backdrop and photo corner, and staffed it with two rotating host teams so nobody worked three consecutive late nights. The agency handled the venues and catering; we handled the floor, the hosts and the branded pieces, and briefed their on-site producer on our house rules each night.

The programme ran to plan. The agency has since booked us for two further events, which is the only review in this business that counts.

Feedback

In their words, anonymised.

We publish feedback in the form our clients are comfortable with: sector, event type and region, without organisation names or individual names.

We had 140 people, half of whom had never played anything. Twenty minutes in, the room had sorted itself into tables and nobody was standing against a wall. That was the whole point of the night.
Operations lead Technology company · year-end function · Christchurch
I wanted the look without anything resembling gambling, because several guests would have been uncomfortable. The chips-only format made that an easy conversation to have in the invitation.
Private host 60th birthday · heritage room · Fiordland
As an agency we sub-contract a lot of entertainment. The floor plan arrived before we asked for it, the crew were early, and the pack-down was invisible. We rebooked for two more events.
Account director Event agency partner · multi-event programme
Our people team asked for something defensible and the rotation gave us that. No money, assigned teams, and a written summary afterwards we could actually circulate.
People partner Professional services firm · team building programme
We hired the tables and used our own staff for the first event, then hired their hosts for the second. The difference was obvious enough that we have not gone back.
Venue manager Conference venue · mobile table hire
Eighteen guests, one table, and a running order that held to the minute through a five-course service. I have produced events for a decade and that is rarer than it sounds.
Private client Signature evening · Otago
Entertainment only. This is an offline, adults-only event entertainment service. There is no real-money gambling, no betting, no cash prizes and no online casino service. Chips are symbolic, have no monetary value and cannot be exchanged for money, credit or goods. Guests must be 20 or over. None of the events described above involved money on a table, and no cash or cash-equivalent prize was awarded at any of them.
