Responsible Entertainment Notice

Our position in full: what we provide, what we deliberately do not provide, how we enforce it at an event, and what we ask of you if the theme would not be right for someone on your guest list.

1. Shotovergrand does not provide gambling services

Shotovergrand is an event entertainment business. We organise casino-themed offline events in New Zealand. We are not a casino, we do not operate a gaming venue, and we are not a gambling operator. We hold no gambling licence because the service we provide does not involve gambling.

We do not provide, arrange, host or facilitate:

  • real-money gambling of any kind;
  • betting or wagering;
  • cash prizes or prizes of monetary value;
  • deposits, buy-ins, top-ups, credit or banking of any kind;
  • online casino services, online gaming or any remote gambling product;
  • slot machines, electronic gaming machines or screen-based gaming equipment.

2. What we actually provide

Offline event entertainment: built entertainment tables, symbolic chips, trained hosts and event production at a venue you nominate. The appeal of our events is the craft and the hospitality — a level, well-lit table, a host who can teach a stranger in four minutes, and a small ceremony near the end of the night.

3. Symbolic chips, and why that matters

Every table runs on symbolic chips. They are issued free and equally to guests on arrival, they are never sold, they cannot be topped up, they carry no denomination or currency symbol, and they cannot be exchanged for money, credit, goods, services or vouchers. They are reconciled at the end of the event and remain our property.

No guest can win anything of value at a Shotovergrand event, and no guest can lose anything. That is the design, not a side effect of it.

4. Adults only: 20 and over

Our events are for guests aged 20 or over. We will not run a table where under-20s are present on the event floor. Clients confirm the age restriction when booking, we support venue ID procedures, and our hosts may refuse a person at a table or close a table where the restriction is not being met.

We do not market to minors, we do not use imagery of minors or of people who appear to be under 20, and we do not run this format for school, youth or mixed-age groups.

5. How the rules are enforced on the night

Rules only hold if someone holds them. At our events that is the host, and every host works to the same written brief:

  • Chips are issued, never sold, and never exchanged for anything.
  • No money, property, services or favours may be staked at a table.
  • If money appears on a felt, it is declined immediately.
  • If it keeps appearing, the host closes the table and the floor manager speaks to the organiser.
  • Nobody under 20 plays.

Hosts are authorised to close a table on any of these grounds without seeking approval first. We would rather lose a table for ten minutes than run an event that stops being what we say it is.

6. If a casino theme would not be right for someone

Removing the money removes the gambling, but it does not remove the association. For someone affected by gambling harm, a room full of felt and chips can be genuinely unwelcome, and we do not pretend otherwise.

So we ask three things of our clients:

  • Tell your guests what the format is. One line in the invitation is enough: casino-themed entertainment, chips only, nothing played for money. It lets a guest make an informed decision quietly.
  • Make not playing easy. Our floor plans always leave somewhere comfortable to stand, and our hosts never press anyone to a table. Nobody should have to explain themselves.
  • Talk to us if you have a concern. If you know this theme is wrong for your group, say so at the enquiry stage. We will tell you honestly, and we will not try to talk you into it.

We recommend that anyone experiencing gambling-related harm does not take part in casino-themed entertainment, even in a format with no money involved.

7. Alcohol and conduct

Where alcohol is served, that service is run by your venue or your caterer under their own licence and host responsibility obligations, not by us. Our hosts will raise a concern with your venue or organiser rather than intervening in alcohol service themselves, and will decline to continue dealing to a guest who is clearly intoxicated.

8. Support services in New Zealand

If gambling is causing harm to you or to someone you know, free and confidential support is available in New Zealand, entirely independently of us:

  • Gambling Helpline New Zealand — 0800 654 655, free, 24 hours a day.
  • Free text support — text 8006.
  • Your GP or local health service can refer you to free specialist services.

We have no commercial relationship with any of these services. We list them because it is the responsible thing for a business working with this theme to do.

9. Questions about this notice

If anything here is unclear, or you want to discuss whether our format suits your guest list, email [email protected] or call +64 3 315 7449. You can also read our Terms and Conditions or go to the contact page.

Please note. This document is provided for information and is drafted as a template for a small New Zealand event services business. It is not legal advice. Before relying on it commercially, have it reviewed by a qualified lawyer against your actual operations, your insurance cover and the law applying in each place where you take bookings.

Tell us if this theme is wrong for your guest list.

It happens, and it is a sensible thing to raise. We would rather help you choose a different kind of evening than deliver one that makes a guest uncomfortable.
